Brokerage account

A regular investment account you open yourself, with no special tax wrapper and no yearly contribution limit. You pay taxes on gains as rules dictate. In the standard order it is the overflow account: it receives money after the cushions, the match, expensive debt, and the tax-advantaged accounts have had their turn.

For your first $100: Your first $100 usually does not start here if a match or an IRA door is open — the order exists because those doors pay you more per dollar.
